RESULTS OF THE SMALL GRANTS COMPETITIONS UNDER THE GRANT PROGRAM FOR THE MOUNTAINS OF CENTRAL ASIA BIODIVERSITY HOTSPOT IN KAZAKHSTAN, KYRGYZSTAN, TAJIKISTAN, TURKMENISTAN AND UZBEKISTAN

RESULTS OF THE SMALL GRANTS COMPETITIONS UNDER THE GRANT PROGRAM  FOR THE MOUNTAINS OF CENTRAL ASIA BIODIVERSITY HOTSPOT  IN KAZAKHSTAN, KYRGYZSTAN, TAJIKISTAN, TURKMENISTAN AND UZBEKISTAN

Total number of applications received: 54.

The following projects were selected by the Selection Committee based on the results of the expert selection:

Kazakhstan:

1. Public Association «Mountain Club “Jabagly-Manas»

Project «Improvement and expansion of public knowledge about biodiversity and its practical application in the CEPF project area in Zhambyl oblast of Kazakhstan»

2. Public Association «Kolsay»

Project «Preserving biodiversity and strengthening the material and technical equipment of the Kolsai Lakes State National Nature Park»

3. Public Fund «Zhassyl Azyk»

Project «Green approaches to preserve mountain biodiversity forestry “Kakpak” of communal state institution “Narynkol forestry” of Almaty region»

4. Association of Ecological Organizations of Kazakhstan and Historico-Geographical Society «Avalon»

Project «Working with local residents to organize sustainable tourism in two districts of Almaty region through the dissemination of knowledge and practical experience by local communities»

5. Public Fund «Wildlife Without Borders»

Project «Conservation of key biodiversity species of arid mountains of South-Eastern Kazakhstan by developing resource-saving technologies for adaptation and mitigation of climate change»

6. Public Fund «Biodiversity research and conservation center»

Project «Promoting the conservation of birds of prey in Kazakhstan»

 

Kyrgyzstan:

1. Public Fund «Green Energy»

Project «Biodiversity restoration on the territory of Sumsar ayil district of Chatkal district of Jalal-Abad region of the Kyrgyz Republic»

2. Public Association «Orchun»

Project «Preservation and restoration of pastures, prevention of pollution of the Tar River and Lake Kulun-Ata, by involving the local community of Kara-Kulja District, Osh Province»

3. Public Association «Harmony Plus»

Project «Biodiversity conservation and community involvement in the protection, establishment and sustainable management of a community reserve»

4. Public Foundation «Nurmuhamed»

Project «Increasing the income of women’s groups by planting and drying the fruits of wild trees»

5. Public Association «AKMENA»

Project «Involvement of local communities in bioremediation of degraded lands in the floodplain of the Kasan-Say River through the organization of biotope ponds in areas of former gold mining»

 

Tajikistan:

1. Public Organization «Agroecology ZARZAMIN»

Project «Preservation of Genetic Diversity of Rare Flora Species in the Jamoat of Mahmadullo Abdulloev in Rokharv village, Vanj district»

2. Public Organization «NOOSFERA»

Project «Restoring the ecological balance of mountain forest ecosystems in the Sangvor Preserve by conserving the forest’s gene pool and implementing sustainable practices for its use»

 

Turkmenistan:

1. Public Association Enterprise «Tebigy Kuwwat»

Project «Ecological tourism in the aspect of preservation of the natural and cultural environment in the Koytendag StateNature Reserve»

2. Public Organization «Obadeskahyzmat»

Project «Conservation and propagation of pistachio woodlands in the Koytendag State Nature Reserve with the aim of preserving key biodiversity areas»

3. Nature Preserving Society of Turkmenistan

Project «Providing water to the Koytendag State Nature Reserve for better conservation of flora and fauna»
