The first Small grants competitions of up to US $ 20,000 under the Grant program for the Mountains of Central Asia Biodiversity Hotspot completed

The total number of applications for small grants: 75
The following projects were selected by the Selection Committee based on the results of the expert review:

 

Kazakhstan:

1. Public Association «Biogen»

Project: «The education and involvement of local nature users in environmental activities, and capacity building for more effective KBA functioning in the buffer zone of Aksuzhabaglynsky Nature Reserve»

2. Public Foundation «Wildlife without Borders»

Project: «The development of environmental performance assessment tools for snow leopard conservation and civil society involvement in the protection of critical ecosystems in the Northern Tien Shan»

3. Public Association «Mountain Club «Zhabagly Manas»

Project: «The improvement of the environmental education component on identification of CEPF priority animal and plant species in schools of Zhualyn district, Zhambyl region»

 

Kyrgyzstan:

1. Public Association «Orchun»

Project: «The reservation and restoration of flora and fauna in the Northern spurs of the Pamir-Alay Range by involving local community of Kara-Kulzhinsky district, Osh region»

2. Public Association «Global and Local Information Partnership»

Project: «The biodiversity conservation by the capacity building of protected areas and the introduction of a system for assessing the conservation effectiveness of the Kulun-Ata and Karatal-Zhapyryk state reserves»

3. Public Association «Centre for Civic Initiatives «Leader»

Project: «The capacity building of women and youth of Saruui Aiyl Okmotu on sustainable nature utilization and biodiversity conservation through the organization of a micro-reserve and restoration of floodplain ecosystems at the mouth of the Djuuku River and sharing the experience gained in the Sarah Jazz and Karkyr sections, involvement of teachers and local authorities of the Eastern part of Issyk-Kul region»

 

Tajikistan:

1. Public Organization «Nature Protection Squad» in partnership with the Silesian Botanical Garden Alliance (Poland)

Project: «The joint work of Tajik and Polish ecologists with the participation of local communities who are the Baljuvan village residents on the endangered plant species conservation through the development of tools that will promote awareness of the local population about biodiversity conservation, ecotourism and the creation of micro-reserves and eco-routes in Baljuvan»

2. Public Organization «NOOSPHERE»

Project: «The rare and endemic plant species conservation in the mountain and forest zones of the Sarihosor jamot, Baljuvan district»

3. Public Organization «Youth Group for Environmental Protection»

Project: «The promoting biodiversity conservation in the upper reaches of the Kairakkum reservoir by creating conditions for the fauna population»

 

Turkmenistan:

1. Non-governmental Organization «Agzybir Hereket»

Project: «The monitoring and conservation of endangered bird species in the Tallymergen-Kelif-Zeit priority area and a key section of the Eurasian-African Flyway»

2. Expert-analytical Agency «Ynanch-Vepa»

Project: «The employee’s capacity building of the Koitendag nature reserve to improve communication with local communities for the biodiversity conservation through active environmental education»

 

Uzbekistan:

1. Non-governmental Organization « Society for the protection of birds of Uzbekistan»

Project: «The development and implementation of the program for monitoring and protection of globally threatened species in the Talimarzhan water reservoir in cooperation with nature users and environmental authorities»

2. Эколого-ресурсный центр «ЕКОМАКТАВ»

Project: «The mountain ecosystem recovery around the Karakum village by involving local nature users in forest restoration and supporting active environmental education»
